The Year of the Horse offers great promise and hope. It symbolizes character traits as strength, energy, and an outgoing nature and they thrive when they’re the center of attention. They are always in search of a good time and like to keep the crowds happy with their humor and their with. They are extremely intelligent and great at multi-tasking however they don’t always finish what they start because they’re forever chasing the next opportunity. Horses are honest, friendly and open-minded.Let's make this a great year together!

Register Online! On Wednesday, Feb. 26 we will host our very first Small Firm Workshop titled "Small Firm Workshop: Writing Contractual Agreements for Small Projects" from 9am-11am at the Center for Architecture. This event qualifies for 2 AIA/CES LUs.

We are aware that today's business climate makes competing for and producing excellent work at the smaller scale of practice exceedingly challenging. In trying to help our members thrive no matter the scale of their practices we will develop some workshops throughout 2014 ideally suited for small firm principals/managers, those aspiring to start their own firm and emerging professionals.

This specific workshop is designed to assist small firm principals with the basics of the AIA contracts and amending Owner contracts and includes a discussion of the standard of care, common clauses and dispute resolution procedures. We will also discuss specific requirements of Hawaii law.

Participants will learn:

  • The importance of the Written Contract to make certain they are entering into a legally solid contractual agreement.
  • Understand the fundamentals of a professional services contract.
  • Learn how to draft and customize the Contract for clear scope and terms and any special State requirements.
  • Learn the basics of negotiating the terms of the contract and educating their client.

Instructors: Our instructors are Harvey Lung (allied member) from Bays Lung Rose & Holma and Karen Hong, (allied member) with Finance Insurance, Ltd.

Cost: The cost is $20 for members and $35 for non-members. Light refreshments will be served.
