2017 Canstruction® - Vote People's Choice Award

CANS Still Needed! Help Us Support the Hawaii FoodBank - Vote until Oct. 14

Our 12th Annual Canstruction® competition was a great success with 12 amazing structures inspired by our theme “Browse a Library of CANstructures!”

Come Vote - One Can. One Vote! Come view the structures at Pearlridge, Uptown and vote for your favorite(s) with lots of cans. The structure with the most cans will be our People’s Choice Award winner.

Vote generously to assist the Hawaii Foodbank! After “de-canstruction” all cans will be delivered to the Hawaii Foodbank and since our first Canstruction competition in 2006, we have raised 351,130 lbs of food, enough for 276,480 meals.

Volunteer Opportunity

Interested? We Need 4 Guides for our Saturday Architectural Walking Tours

As you might already know AIA Honolulu offers architectural walking tours on pre-reserved Saturday mornings. The tour is of downtown Honolulu through the eyes of an architect that both visitors and locals enjoy.  The tours goes from 9am-11:30am (check in 8:45am) and begin at the Center for Architecture.

Four (4) Volunteers Needed: At this time we are in need of 4 more walking tour guides and if this sounds like a fun opportunity and you want more information please email Purnima McCutcheon, AIA.

AIA Honolulu Programs

Oct 12: YAF/BIA-Hawaii Young Members Pau Hana at Kieselbach Woodworks

RSVP Online! No charge but please RSVP for planning purposes.

Join the AIA Young Architects Forum (YAF) and BIA-Hawaii Young Members Group for a joint pau hana filled with networking, wood working demos, games, and fare. Kieselbach will host live demonstrations of their processes and tools used in woodworking (planer, saws, jointer, etc.).

When/Where: Thursday, Oct. 12, 5:30-7:00pm, Kieselbach Woodworks, 825 Halekauwila St
Bonus: Pupus, Refreshments, Ping Pong, Darts, & Shuffle Board

4 Scheduled Demonstrations: There will be 4 scheduled demos lasting about 10 minutes each (5:30pm, 5:40pm, 5:50pm, 6pm). Kieselbach Associates will answer questions and show dry runs after these demonstrations. For safety purposes, actual cuts will only be made during the demonstrations.

To attend these demonstrations, email YAF and indicate your preferred time. Friends and colleagues welcome.

Meeting Information: All active AIA Honolulu members are invited to attend this meeting. Elections will be held to fill expiring terms for 2018 AIA Honolulu Officers, Directors and AIA Honolulu Representative to the AIA Hawaii State Council. Note; Candidate speeches will be given only by candidates running for contested positions.

AIA Honolulu Board of Directors Elections – Who Can Vote?  As stated in the Bylaws, all AIA members and Associate AIA members in good standing for 2017, and assigned by the Institute to this Chapter as their primary membership, are eligible to vote at this meeting. Local allied members may attend but may not vote.

Nov 2: ARE Prep Session "Construction and Evaluation Exam Prep"
