AIA Honolulu Weekend Re-Focus Session

We would like to say Mahalo to all 2014 AIA Honolulu Board and Committee Members who attended the AIA Honolulu Re-Focus Session that took place on Saturday, March 29.

A dedicated group of ~30 members spent 4 hours of their Saturday morning addressing the question: How can we reinvigorate the architectural profession here in Hawaii – to elevate public awareness, advocate for the profession, and give members competitive tools to thrive in this challenging economy.

April is 2014 Architecture Month

Apr 16 - It's a Party! Help Us Celebrate Newly Licensed Architects

April is Architecture Month and AIA Honolulu is offering free and public events.

  • Apr 12 - Architectural WALKING TOUR in Waikiki
    Register Online! On Sat. April 12 from 8:30am-12:30pm AIA Honolulu will conduct our Eighth Free Annual Walking Tour, led by AIA architects. For the second year we are bringing ~250 walkers to beautiful Waikiki. Join Us!

  • April 25 - Architectural FIRM CRAWL in Downtown Honolulu
    Want your fir to participate? Fill out this form and email to David Kaahaaina, AIA. Events attendees gets a map over participating firms who will be opening their doors to the public from 5pm-8pm nd they are welcome to visit them in any order they like. This is a fun way to spend a Friday After Work!

Hawaii Architect License Renewal

Renew Your Hawaii Architect License by April 30, 2014 at "MyPVL".

Renew Online or by Mail! Architect license renewal in Hawaii is done by the Dep. of Commerce & Consumer Affairs - Professional and Vocational Licensing (DCCA-PVL). Online renewals will continue through midnight Weds., April 30, 2014 at "MyPVL"

To mail in your renewal go to "2014 Renewal Forms" on the PVL website.  Failure to timely renew, biennial April 30 every even numbered year, will result in the forfeiture of the license.

16 Learning Credits! Architects are required to have completed 16 credit hours of continuing education over the biennium (2 year license period) in public protection topics, health, safety and welfare (HSW) to be able to renew their license. CE documentation is not required to be submitted with your renewal application but fulfillment is subject to random audit by the State of Hawaii.

Check your AIA transcripts today using the date range of May 1, 2012 through April 30, 2014.

Need Credits? Get your credits from the 2013 AIA National Convention. Buy a discounted bundle of four courses or pick an choose between over 60 single course. Get started today!

Newly Licensed?  If a person was licensed during the 1st year of the biennium, 8 CE credits are required. If licensed during the 2nd year of the biennium, no CE is required.

April 15 Ascent - UH Sea Grant Conference with Vice President Al Gore

On Tuesday, April 15, 7pm at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa attend the Stephen and Marylyn Pauley Seminar in Sustainability presented by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.

This free seminar is co-hosted by the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program, the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Chancellor’s Office, and the University of Hawai‘i Foundation. The Stan Sheriff Center can accommodate approximately 10,000 people.


Earthday Cleanup Mauka to Makai on April 19

Earth Day is April 19th and Kualoa Ranch is hosting an Earthday Cleanup Mauka to Makai.  Check in at 8:30am, buss leaves at 9:15am and return at 11:30am. The festival goes from 12pm-3pm. All are welcome - free t-shirts and food while supply lasts.

Other clean up locations are Kalama Beach Park, Kahuku Beach & Golf Course and Laie Beach.

The 2014 Build & Buy Green on May 7 is titled "Net Zero & Net Positive". This 14th Annual Conference and Crowd-Sourcing Event will be going to Kakaako.

This annual BBG conference has brought together nationally acclaimed keynote speakers and local experts in the fields of green building, design, engineering, construction and development to discuss emerging and critical global issues relates to green building and communities in Hawaii.

2014 Bowers + Kubota Scholarship - Apply by April 11

Bowers + Kubota Consulting is offering a one $1000 scholarship to assist a student who are planning to pursue or are pursuing a degree in Architecture or Engineering or Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.The award recipient will also be eligible for an internship at Bowers + Kubota Consulting during Summer 2014 or Fall 2014.  Submit scholarship application by e-mail no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 and the scholarship will be awarded May 15, 2014.  Click here for eligibility criteria and information on how to apply.  For questions please email Bowers and Kubota.
