AIA-GCA Committee Seminar Series - Session 3:

The Life of a Drawing – From Napkin Sketch to As-Built and Everything In-between

The Construction Process:  Evolution of the Documents . . . Including the Construction BIM Model

Join us for the concluding session of the AIA-GCA Committee Seminar Series: The Life of a Drawing – From Napkin Sketch to As-Built and Everything In-between.   The first sessions focused on how the drawings are developed and used during the programming, planning, and design process.  Our second session discussed how the Contractor utilizes the Construction Documents during the Pre-Construction Planning and Bidding process.

Our final session will focus on how the Construction Documents form the basis of the construction and describe how the drawings evolve through the construction phase through the RFI, ASI, PCD, and CO processes.  Join us to better understand how Contractors are using BIM for their virtual construction models, the technologies being utilized to track & document changes in both the field and office, and the post-construction model being offered to the Owners for management of their new facilities.

Speakers:

  • Jon Ferguson, Layton Construction Company, LLC - Corporate Manager of Visualization
  • Nickolas Brown, Layton Construction Company, LLC – Project Engineer (for the recent Kapiolani Medical Center expansion project)
  • Dale Keep, Layton Construction Company, LLC – Business Development

This presentation will focus on how the Construction Documents change and evolve during the Construction Phase and Post-Construction period.

  • Shop Drawings – How the CDs prepared by the Design Consultants evolve during the Construction Phase through the Shop Drawing process.
  • Construction Modeling - How the Contractor develops the Construction Model via BIM/Revit
  • As-Builts – How GC & Sub-Contractors do to document As-Built conditions during the construction and how all the modifications due to field conditions/decisions are incorporated into the As-Built documents
  • Post-Construction BIM Model for Owners & Facility Managers
