Get Involved with AIA Honolulu in 2018

Join Us! Take a look at our many AIA Honolulu Committees

Make the most of your AIA membership by being an active Chapter member! The Committees and Task Forces of AIA Honolulu are the foundations from which the chapter positions itself in the field of architecture, whether through discussion, advocacy, policy making and development, event and exhibition planning, or other endeavors. The Committees initiate the majority of programs held at the Center for Architecture, and are the main avenue for direct involvement with the Chapter.

There are many ways to get involved with AIA Honolulu. View Committee Sign Up Form for brief descriptions of our Committees. Check off any that may be of interest to you or that you’d like to learn more about, email us the form and we will contact you for further information.

AIA Housing Committee Blog & LUO Task Force Website

Our Land Use Ordinance (LUO) Task Force and Housing Committee are gathering valuable resource for members and provide a forum where members can find more information and further engage in issue that we are following.  To get involved and informed please check out the two below ongoing AIA Honolulu forums and upcoming meetings.

The committee has developed an AIA Honolulu Housing Committee blog where they post information regarding the City bill "Large Detached Dwellings" and broader housing issues.  Members can subscribe to the blog for notifications when new material is posted.

The LUO Task Force has also created a website to distribute information.  The task force is reviewing and collecting member comments on the current LUO via meetings and online via the following form AIA Honolulu LUO Comments Form.

AIA National Update

Architecture billings continue growth into 2018

Business conditions easing in the Northeast, but very strong in the rest of the country

Washington, D.C. – February 21, 2018 – 2018 started on a strong note for architecture firms, as the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) saw its highest January score since 2007. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reported the January ABI score was 54.7, up from a score of 52.8 in the previous month. This score reflects an increase in design services provided by U.S. architecture firms (any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings). The new projects inquiry index was 61.1, down from a reading of 62.0 the previous month, while the new design contracts index increased slightly from 53.4 to 53.9.
“Healthy conditions continue across all sectors and regions except the Northeast, where firm billings softened for the second consecutive month,” said AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA, PhD. “With strong billings and healthy growth in new projects to start the year, firms remain generally optimistic about business conditions for the next several months.”
