AIA Honolulu Chapter Women Toured Julia Morgan Building in Honolulu

In celebration of Julia Morgan, FAIA, 1st woman to receive an AIA Gold Medal award, the ladies of AIA Honolulu attended a luncheon/pau hana tour of YWCA of Oahu’s Laniakea property by Leslie Miasnik, Assoc. AIA. Leslie, a member of the YWCA Board of Directors and the YWCA of Oahu, has been reaching out to the community through YWConnect, giving tours of the property to reconnect the community with it’s mission.

Our AIA members enjoyed networking and learned a lot about Julia Morgan and the history of Laniakea. The ladies also toured the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business and Leadership to learn about classes for women (and men) and the Dress for Success Program which offers economic advancement opportunities for women throughout the community. The Richard Street YWCA has the unique position of having the only one of 17 YWCA’s designed by Julia Morgan that is still used for its original intended purpose, and continues to be used and enjoyed by the community almost 100 years later in the same vision of it’s original design. Read the full write up (PDF).  For more information about tours email Wendy Chang.
