“What makes good design, great architecture?” Is a presumptive question to ask. Good Design can make our human-created world better. It can make it better in a social and an environmental sense. Architecture should be neither weird nor boring, neither alien nor alienating, neither wasteful nor wanting in the qualities that make us human. It should be good!  Come listen to Andrew Tang; Deirdre Stearns, AIA and Bundit Kanisthakhon talk about.....

1) The "foundation" of their early years which may have contributed to their process in design of good buildings.
2) Education and exposure to "Architect Heros" and how that influenced their practice.
3) Principals, ideas, and elements which influence their designs such as the client, budget, program etc.
4) Experience working abroad and how that influenced their approach towards design.

Architecture Firm Billings Strengthen

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is reporting that architecture firm billings rose for the seventh consecutive month, with the pace of growth in April increasing modestly from March.

Overall, the AIA’s Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score for April was 52.0 (any score over 50 is billings growth), which indicates the business environment continues to be healthy for architecture firms despite continued labor shortages, growing inflation in building materials costs and rising interest rates. The ABI also revealed that business conditions remained strong at firms located in the West, while billings softened slightly at Midwest firms.  Read More.

Number of U.S. Architects on the Rise

Every year, NCARB requests the number of architects and reciprocal licenses from each of its jurisdictions—which include all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The 2017 Survey of Architectural Registration Boards indicates architects in the United States rose to 113,554, a three percent increase since 2016. Compared to the population, there is one architect for every 2,900 people in the United States.

The number of architects has risen over 10 percent since 2008, while the total U.S. population has risen 8 percent, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Read more.
