Vapor Drive – How to control moisture in Hawaii and how the
recent ICC updates will impact the design of building envelopes

Moisture accumulation within roofs and exterior walls can come from many sources.  While wind driven rain usually comes to mind first, moisture built up through air transport and diffusion are just as common.  Vapor drive in Hawaii is almost always from the outside to the inside when the interiors are conditioned.  The transport of warm, moist air into the wall cavities can reduce insulation performance and provide one of the three elements to support organic growth.

This seminar will address the new elements of the code to retard moisture transport and the general principles that should be incorporated into sound design of all exterior walls.
