Join us as we celebrate the launch of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee. EDI’s mission is to support equity, diversity and inclusion within the design community and create a stronger profession by providing opportunities for career progression, leadership development, work culture improvements, and talent recruitment. We are committed to supporting the actions and conversations that lead to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive design community that represents the unique characteristics of Hawaiʻi.
At this event we will discuss our committee’s mission and recent AIA demographic survey findings over light appetizers before our guest speaker, Dr. Akiemi Glenn, leads a discussion regarding how Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion relates to our very unique community here in Hawaiʻi and how investing in EDI best-practices can improve our industry as a whole.
Dr. Akiemi Glenn is a Honolulu-based nonprofit leader, curator, and systems-oriented qualitative researcher. The founder and executive director of the Pōpolo Project, an organization that explores concepts of culture, race, and belonging in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific region, Dr. Glenn works at the intersection of rich vectors of change and resilience in education, the arts, and cultural programming.
