The BUILDING VOICES symposium is an annual ideas + action festival that engages diverse design perspectives as a framework for responding to the contemporary challenges and opportunities experienced in Hawai‘i. As the fourth event in
series, which is jointly hosted by AIA Honolulu and the UH Mānoa School of Architecture, BUILDING VOICES: FORESIGHT IS 20/20 will focus on highlighting strategies for employing design in insightful ways, with clarity of intent, to
achieve aspirational outcomes.
In a year which has seen unprecedented questioning of the social, environmental, cultural, political, and educational status quo, the symposium presents a unique opportunity to boldly envision how design can help both stimulate and participate
in advancing new normals. The theme for this year’s event, FORESIGHT IS 20/20, focuses on projecting how we as a community can move forward in proactive and progressive ways beyond reflecting on the limitations of the current context and practices.
With an eye toward the future, the week-long series of nine virtual presentations will gather national and local designers to discuss how they see learning, housing, community, equity, and sustainability through the lens of architecture.
