SUMMARY:Arts & Crafts with Family Programs Hawaii
DESCRIPTION:ARTS & CRAFTS NIGHT & DONATION DRIVE	\n \n	The Family Programs Hawaii Annual Holiday Party provides nearly 1400 keiki in the Child Welfare System with a chance to create memories with their brothers and sisters even if living apart for their safety while waiting for reunification or adoption.  Keiki under 12 receive donated gifts\, while teens receive $25 gift cards.  We’ll be asking members to donate $25 Target or Walmart gift cards for the teens in foster care (to maintain uniformity and avoid any conflicts with gender\, ages\, etc.). \nWe’ll host the arts and craft night with a variety of take-home and communal crafts\, including these Penguin Poppers which will provide some entertainment for the kids at the Holiday Party.

SUMMARY:AIA Book Club: Nature Behind Barbed Wire
DESCRIPTION:Designing Conversations:AIA Hawai’i Book Club\nEach quarter\, we’ll gather around a book tangential to architecture-think design\, culture\, place\, history\, climate\, or the forces that shape the built environment in unexpected ways. The event features a compelling guest speaker who will draw out the book’s big ideas and connect them to practice in Hawaiʻi\, all hosted at a cool\, thoughtfully chosen venue. \nWhether you’ve read every page\, skimmed the introduction\, or are just coming for the conversation\, the AIA Hawaiʻi Book Club is about shared curiosity and expanding how we think about our work and our world. \nBook Club #1: At the Hawaii Plantation Village Mar 28!\n \nFor our first Book Club\, we have chosen “Nature Behind Barbed Wire: An Environmental History of the Japanese American Incarceration” by Connie Chang. \nCopies of the book are available at the Center for Architecture for $25\, or via Amazon/the publisher. \nGood News: You do NOT have to read the book to attend. Join us for an engaging conversation designed for anyone curious about architecture and its broader context. \n\nOur first featured guest speaker will be Christine Ogura\, NPS Superintendent for the Honouliuli National Historic Site. \nOgura has worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 14 years. She worked for the late U.S. Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink and for non-profits acquiring lands for the NPS and supported international conservation efforts in more than 10 countries. SUMMARY:AIA Book Club: What If We Get It Right
DESCRIPTION:Designing Conversations:\nAIA Hawai’i Book Club (2 LUs)\nEach quarter\, we’ll gather around a book tangential to architecture-think design\, culture\, place\, history\, climate\, or the forces that shape the built environment in unexpected ways. \n	Book Club Q2: At Ma’o Organic Farms May 23!\n\nFor our second Book Club\, we have chosen “What If We Get It Right: Visions of Climate Futures” by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson.\nA SMITHSONIAN BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR! Sometimes\, the bravest thing we can do when facing an existential crisis is to imagine life on the other side. This provocative and joyous book maps an inspiring landscape of possible climate futures. \n\n \n	\n	Through clear-eyed essays and vibrant conversations\, infused with data\, poetry\, and art\, Ayana guides us through solutions and possibilities at the nexus of science\, policy\, culture\, and justice. Visionary farmers and financiers\, architects and advocates\, help us conjure a flourishing future\, one worth the effort it will take-from every one of us\, with whatever we have to offer-to create. \nWith grace\, humor\, and humanity\, Johnson invites readers to ask and answer this ultimate question together: What if we get it right? \n	Where to get the book? You can find the book at your local library\, bookstore or online. \nGood News: You do NOT have to read the book to attend. Join us for an engaging conversation designed for anyone curious about architecture and its broader context. \n\n \n	\n	The discussion will be led by Kukui Maunakea-Forth\, Executive Director of the Farm. Read bio. \nModerated by Kirsten Oleson\, Professor of Ecological Economics at UH Manoa.\nRead bio.\n	We are also planning a 1/2 day workday in conjunction with the Book Club. Additionally\, participants will be able to see the award-winning processing facility at the Farm by AMA A/E. Stay tuned for more information. \n	When: Saturday\, May 23 from Time TBA\nWhere: MAʻO Organic Farms\, 86-148 Puhawai Rd\, Waianae\, HI 96792\nCEU: This session qualifies for 2 AIA/CES (HSW)\nMax: 50 attendees\nCost: Free\nParking: Free\n\n \n \n RSVP for Book Club #2\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n AIA DesignationAIAAssoc.
