The event features a compelling guest speaker who will draw out the book’s big ideas and connect them to practice in Hawaiʻi\, all hosted at a cool\, thoughtfully chosen venue. \nWhether you’ve read every page\, skimmed the introduction\, or are just coming for the conversation\, the AIA Hawaiʻi Book Club is about shared curiosity and expanding how we think about our work and our world. \nBook Club #1: At the Hawaii Plantation Village Mar 28!\n  \nFor our first Book Club\, we have chosen “Nature Behind Barbed Wire: An Environmental History of the Japanese American Incarceration” by Connie Chang. \nCopies of the book are available at the Center for Architecture for $25\, or via Amazon/the publisher. \nGood News: You do NOT have to read the book to attend. Join us for an engaging conversation designed for anyone curious about architecture and its broader context. \n\nOur first featured guest speaker will be Christine Ogura\, NPS Superintendent for the Honouliuli National Historic Site. \nOgura has worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 14 years. She worked for the late U.S. Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink and for non-profits acquiring lands for the NPS and supported international conservation efforts in more than 10 countries.
