SUMMARY:Kauai Bill Update
DESCRIPTION:Share Your Input on Kauaʻi Bill 2998 and WUI!\nA recent Civil Beat article discusses Kauaʻi Bill 2998\, a proposed Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) ordinance that would require newly constructed homes to include fire-resistant building and landscaping features. The bill was developed in response to increasing wildfire risks across Hawaiʻi and incorporates lessons learned from the Lahaina fires and recent wildfire events on Kauaʻi. Proposed measures include noncombustible materials\, ember-resistant vents\, and other requirements aimed at reducing home ignitions and improving community resilience. \nRepresentatives from AIA Hawaii attended the recent Wildfire Conference and spoke with the Kauai Codes Enforcement Officer to discuss the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) ordinance introduced there. \nIf you have reviewed the proposed bill and would like to share your thoughts\, we invite you to join a virtual discussion. The conversation will be led by the Hawaiʻi State Council Advocacy Committee and will provide an opportunity for AIA members to discuss the proposed legislation and offer feedback before comments are submitted on behalf of the organization. \nProposed bill link to read:\nhttps://www.aiahonolulu.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Bill-WUI-Wildfire-and-Wildland-Urban-Interface-ZA-2026-6-JA_sf-1.pdf\nTime: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM\nLocation: Online Virtual (Zoom)\n	\n \n \n RSVP for Kauai Bill Update\n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n AIA DesignationNon-memberAIAAssoc.
