SUMMARY:AIA Book Club: Intellectual Anarchy
DESCRIPTION:Designing Conversations:\nAIA Hawai’i Book Club\nEach quarter\, we’ll gather around a book tangential to architecture-think design\, culture\, place\, history\, climate\, or the forces that shape the built environment in unexpected ways. The event features a compelling guest speaker who will draw out the book’s big ideas and connect them to practice in Hawaiʻi\, all hosted at a cool\, thoughtfully chosen venue. \nWhether you’ve read every page\, skimmed the introduction\, or are just coming for the conversation\, the AIA Hawaiʻi Book Club is about shared curiosity and expanding how we think about our work and our world. \n	Book Club Q4: AIA Honolulu Center for Architecture!\nFor our fourth Book Club\, we have chosen “Intellectual Anarchy” by Dr. Patrick Sullivan\, CEO of Oceanit. \nIntellectual Anarchy: Architecture and the Future of Design\nHow will emerging technologies\, new materials and unconventional methods reshape the future of architecture? \nArtificial Intelligence is impacting the world of “deep tech\,” which is enabling new science\, engineering and design.  Advances in technology\, materials science\, artificial intelligence\, engineering\, fabrication and construction are opening possibilities that would have been difficult to imagine only a generation ago. \n\n \n	\n	Intellectual Anarchy explores how we can approach difficult problems by challenging conventional thinking and looking for disruptive solutions rather than incremental improvements. Developed at Oceanit\, the Intellectual Anarchy discipline encourages ideas that may initially seem to come “out of left field”-ideas capable of overturning established practices\, industries and business models. \n	For this conversation\, author Dr. Patrick Sullivan will bring that thinking directly into the world of architecture. \nDrawing on examples from emerging technologies\, engineering and materials science\, Dr. Sullivan will explore how innovation could create entirely new opportunities for architects and designers-from new methods and materials to new ways of creating spaces\, structures and human experiences. \nThe discussion will challenge us to think beyond how architecture is practiced today and ask bigger questions: \n\nWhat will become possible that isn’t possible today?\nHow will technology change what-and how-we design?\nWhat new materials and methods could transform the built environment?\nAnd what role will architects play as the boundaries between design\, technology\, engineering and science continue to blur?\n\n	Where to get the book? You can find the book online here. \nGood News: You do NOT have to read the book to attend. This is an engaging\, forward-looking conversation for anyone curious about where architecture is headed and how emerging technology could redefine the profession. \nOur moderator/presenter will be the author\, Dr. Sullivan. \n\n \n	\n	About Dr. Patrick Sullivan:\nDr. Patrick Sullivan is a scientist\, engineer\, technologist\, entrepreneur\, businessman\, public speaker and futurist. He founded Oceanit in 1985 and developed its Intellectual Anarchy approach to disruptive innovation. He has launched numerous private-equity-financed start-ups and spin-out companies and has spent decades working at the intersection of science\, technology\, engineering and innovation.\n	In 2016\, Hawaii Business Magazine named him CEO of the Year\, and in 2019\, Pacific Business News named him a Titan of Technology. \nWhen: October 13\, 2026 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM\nWhere: AIA Honolulu Center for Architecture\, 828 Fort Street Mall\, Suite 100\, Honolulu\, HI 96813\nCost: Free\nParking: Visit this link for directions to our Center for Architecture\, as well as parking suggestions.\n(We recommend the Harbor Court building next door\, as the Oceanit parking lot has limited guest parking) \n\n \n \n RSVP for Book Club #4\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n AIA DesignationAIAAssoc. SUMMARY:Architecture Month: "Bawa's Garden" Film Night Honolulu
DESCRIPTION:Oahu Film Night “Bawa’s Garden”\nFriday\, Oct 16\, 6:00PM – 9:00PM\nat HoMA Doris Duke Theatre\n\n \n	\n	AIA Honolulu invites members and the public to join us for a screening of “Bawa’s Garden\,” to be shown in Honolulu on Oahu. \nEvent Information:\nDate: Friday\, October 16 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM\nLocation: HoMA Doris Duke Theatre\nFilm: “Bawa’s Garden” (1h 29m)\nLanguage: French (with English subtitles) and English.\nCost: Free\nProgram Schedule:\n6:00pm Doors Open\n6:30pm Film Starts\n8:00pm Moderated Discussion\nFilm Overview:\n“Bawa’s Garden” is a road movie in search of the work of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.\nThe film follows a protagonist as she traverses the island in pursuit of the ‘lost’ garden of Lunuganga. While the treasure may be the goal\, the journey sparks encounters with vivid characters and rarely seen buildings that reveal the story of Bawa’s life and legacy. \nShot across Sri Lanka\, this experimental docudrama blends dreamlike narrative with real people and places intrinsic to Bawa’s world. Eclectic and quietly moving\, the film echoes the spirit of Bawa’s architecture-and the collaborators who helped shape it. \nEclectic and quietly moving\, the film echoes the spirit of Bawa’s architecture-and the collaborators who helped shape it. \n \n View Trailer Here\n \n	\n \n \n RSVP for 2026 Oahu Film Night\n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n AIA DesignationNon-memberAIAAssoc. \n \n View Trailer Here\n \n	RSVP Link to be shared soon\n\n Dickey Sponsor	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n Wood Sponsors	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n Ossipoff Sponsors	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n Preis Sponsors
