Description
The Job Captain/Architect plays a critical role from the start to the finish every job. The Job Captain/Architect oversees developing Entitlement Documents, Design Development Documents, and Construction Documents for multiple projects of varying complexity. He or she is also in charge of keeping Construction Administration organized and delegating tasks to team members and consultants.
At the Job Captain/Architect level, it is understood guidance will be necessary from the Senior Job Captain, Project Architect, Senior Technical Designer, or Project Manager but for the most part the Job Captain should be self-driven and only require assistance for advanced questions. The Job Captain/Architect should have a good understanding of assembling drawings, coordination of consultants, and detailing.
General Qualifications
1. General: Technical and Design skills in Revit.
2. Communication: Excellent communication skills allowing for the clear delineation for design intent to project team, consultants, and senior leadership of the firm.
3. Academic: Graduate of an accredited architectural program.
4. Licensure: Architectural licensure in jurisdiction we practice work is required for the Architect title.
5. Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in a registered architect's office not including internships.
Professional Skills
1. Substantial knowledge of design and planning principles for complex projects. Ability to work on more than one project at a time and to direct team members.
2. Ability to work with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and Project Designer.
3. Expert Revit / CAD drafting graphic techniques. Ability to guide subordinates in such work.
4. Assist in directing a Junior Design or Designer on your team and coach them in their development.
5. Knowledge of detailing, building materials, and construction methods for building types in your studio.
6. Knowledge of building and planning codes, including ADA/Title 24 accessibility criteria. Ability to interpret ordinances.
7. Ability to work in all phases of a project’s development including large and/or complex projects.
8. Ability to participate in Contract Document preparation with minimal supervision.
9. Working knowledge of structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustical and building envelope systems integration.
10. Ability to redline a set of drawings and delegate redlines to a Junior Designer or Designer.
11. Ability to perform quality control on portions of work under his or her responsibility.
12. Ability to perform all construction administration tasks for a wide range of projects and issue direct instruction to general contractor in conformance with Lowney Architecture services responsibilities.
13. Ability to fully familiarize yourself and team members of Lowney Architecture scope of services / contractual obligations. Alert Project Manager of any issues that arise.
14. Coordinating signing and sealing Construction Documents for permit application; coordinate review and approval from all governing agencies.
15. Ability to work with colleagues in a team environment.
16. Maintain a utilization ratio in excess of 95%, assuming sufficient backlog of work.
Communication Skills
1. Participate in client presentations. Assist with developing outline of material and directing meetings by agenda. Communicate ideas directly and clearly.
2. Originate and maintain project correspondence independently and under supervision. Issue field orders and other technical written documents. Generate clear written instructions.
3. Maintain project files for written communications.
4. Make qualitative decisions on graphic communications.
5. Excellent personal presentation. Properly presents the firm and themselves with high professional, ethical and moral standards.
Professional Activities
1. Membership: Active membership in SPUR, AIA, or IIDA is highly desirable.
2. Public Service: Some contributions to community activities desirable but not required.
3. Professional Service: Some contribution to professional activities and organizations desirable but not required.
