Emerging Professionals Committee
The Emerging Professionals Committee is dedicated to being a voice to express the needs of all emerging professional AIA and Associate AIA members within AIA Honolulu towards career advancement and professional development, working strategically with the various AIA committees and leaders towards steering and developing events and initiatives to serve the unique needs of young professionals. The committee is poised to become part of a larger network of EPC’s across the country, as well as the Center for Emerging Professionals, to share and gather knowledge and ideas to benefit our local members here.
Emerging Professionals Committee Goals
- The EPC aims to be a collective voice for all emerging professionals, especially Associate AIA members, whose numbers continue to grow
- The EPC aims to work strategically with the chapter Associate Director, the Young Architects Forum (YAF), the ARE Prep program, the Mentorship Program, and state licensing advisor towards coordinating events and initiatives to serve the unique needs of recent and future architects and practitioners
- The EPC aims to connect with other EPC’s in sister AIA chapters around the country to understand learn from and continually exchange information on trends, programs, etc. to better help emerging professionals
- The EPC aims to represent the unique interests of all backgrounds regardless of experience level, race, gender, sexual orientation or physical ability.
- The EPC aims to provide valuable leadership opportunities to members of the committee and those looking to get involved who currently have limited opportunity
Emerging Professionals Committee Structure
There are currently three primary committees that fall under the umbrella of the Emerging Professionals committee. For detailed information on each of these sub-committees, click on the links below:
- ARE Prep sub-committee: The Architectural Exam Preparation (ARE Prep) committee serves as a resource, meeting place, and training forum for professionals taking the ARE. Monthly events rotate through the ARE exams. Emerging professionals who are interested in more information about, have registered for, or are in the process of taking the ARE, are encouraged to participate in ARE Prep.
- Mentorship sub-committee: The AIA Honolulu Mentorship Program was created to provide an organized (formal) platform and community for career and leadership development for the rising generation in the architecture profession. The focus will be on the transition from graduation to professional practice and ultimately licensure, with guidance from a wide range of industry leaders.
- Young Architects Forum: The Young Architects Forum (YAF) is organized to address and advocate issues of recently licensed architects, defined as those licensed ten years or less. These Architects are confronted with issues relating to their professional and personal lives; some of these are profession-wide while others are unique to their career and life stage. YAF is the voice of recently licensed Architects and the catalyst for future leadership and fellowship in the profession.
As the new Emerging Professionals committee continues to develop more subcommittees will be created to speak to the overall committees goals as outlined above.
Membership in the Emerging Professionals committee is open to all AIA Honolulu members, but primarily geared toward Associate members and Architects licensed less than ten years.
