Alana Yasui_2

Alana is Director of Interior Design at Next Design LLC, where she leads a diverse range of project types. Her experience spans entertainment design, exhibit design, retail, office, healthcare, hospitality, and education projects.

Known for her thoughtful approach to materiality, spatial experience, and brand identity, Alana collaborates closely with clients and project teams to create interiors that reflect the culture and aspirations of each client. Her work has contributed to award-winning design projects recognized within Hawaiʻi’s architecture and design community.

Alana is an advocate for mentorship and professional development, particularly through the IIDA Hawaiʻi Pacific chapter, supporting emerging designers and helping to strengthen Hawaiʻi’s design community.

Bonhui is an architectural designer, artist, and illustrator with a career spanning six decades. Born in the Philippines, he studies architectural engineering at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan and earned a Master of Science in Tropical Architecture from Pratt Institute in New York.

His talents were sought after by renowned Architects including Philip Johnson, I.M. Pei, Edward Larrabee Barnes, Samuel Body, and David Childs before he served as Director of Design at Media5 Architects in Honolulu.

Today he is celebrated for his playful and whimsical style in drawings, sculpture, and mixed-media artwork with exhibitions in Hawaiʻi, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

Cayenne is the co-owner of Alaka‘i Development, a residential development company focused on creating attainable housing and resilient communities across the islands.

Prior to co-founding Alaka‘i Development, she served as Director of Finance at Forest City Hawai‘i, where she oversaw financial strategy and development initiatives for major multi-family and mixed-use projects.

Cayenne has been recognized for her leadership in business and community development and is an active advocate for expanding local housing opportunities.

A West O‘ahu native, she serves on several nonprofit and community boards and is committed to mentoring the next generation of leaders shaping Hawai‘i.

Dan is a Principal at Architects Hawaii, Ltd. where he leads project teams on complex civic, institutional, commercial, and aviation projects across Hawaiʻi.

With decades of experience in architecture and project leadership, Dan has guided numerous projects from planning through construction, earning recognition for design excellence and thoughtful execution. His work emphasizes collaborative design, technical precision, and solutions responsive to Hawaiʻi’s climate and communities.

Over the course of his career, Dan has contributed to numerous award-winning projects and has been involved with a number of community organizations, including the Urban Land Institute and the Association for Learning Environments.

Michael is the President and CEO of Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc., one of Hawai‘i’s most respected general contractors. A licensed civil engineer with degrees from MIT and Stanford, Michael oversees the strategy and operations of the 100% employee-owned firm.

Under his leadership, ACK has earned numerous accolades, including the GCA Build Hawaii Award of Excellence and the NAIOP Contractor of the Year.

Deeply committed to the local community, Michael serves on several boards, including Child & Family Service and HomeAid Hawaii, and recently served as President of the General Contractors Association of Hawaii.

As a mentor, he offers a unique bridge between design and construction, providing mentees with expert insights into project feasibility, leadership, and the collaborative effort required to build a resilient Hawai‘i.

The 5x5x5 Mentorship Program is a structured, small-group experience designed to foster meaningful connections and professional growth. Participants are placed into groups of 5 mentees who meet with 5 different mentors over the course of the program, 5 mentorship sessions.

Throughout the program, mentees have the opportunity to:

  • Build connections within the architecture and design community
  • Gain insight into different career trajectories and leadership approaches
  • Engage in candid, small-group conversations with established professionals
  • Develop confidence, communication skills, and professional networks

The program begins with a kickoff gathering for all participants and concludes with a final celebration to reflect on the experience and connections made.
