Downtown Honolulu Walking Tour
The Expanded Version!
In addition to our regular monthly walking tours, AIA Honolulu shares a special Architectural Walking Tour of Downtown Honolulu in celebration of Architecture Month.
Explore the rich architectural history and evolving urban landscape of Downtown Honolulu during AIA Honolulu's annual Architectural Walking Tour. This year's expanded tour offers participants a deeper look at the buildings, public spaces, and design influences that have shaped the city over time. Knowledgeable guides will share stories behind notable landmarks, architectural styles, and the people who helped define Honolulu's built environment.
Staggered Tours: On Saturday, October 24th, staggered tours leave from the check-in point every 15 minutes between 8am to 10am. Each tour guide will lead up to 12 participants.
Start & Check-In: Topa Tower. The last tour will start at 10:00am
A map will be provided to all registered attendees ahead of the event.
The tour takes about 2 hours but due to a larger number of walkers, we appreciate your patience & flexibility if our estimated tour length is not exactly as scheduled.
What You Need to Bring: Water bottle and snacks to keep up your energy; Comfortable shoes; Sunscreen and hats are highly recommended and Umbrella (depending on weather).
Cathedral Entry Requirements: As part of the Walking Tour, participants will have the opportunity to visit an active construction site as the Cathedral is currently under renovation. The safety officer for the renovation requires all visitors to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including:
• Closed-toe shoes • Pants • Covered shoulders
The contractor will provide hard hats and safety glasses for the visit.
Walkers who do not meet these requirements, or who choose not to enter, may enjoy a break during this portion of the tour and rejoin the group afterward.
ADA Disclaimer: This tour includes walking over a moderate distance and may involve uneven surfaces, standing for extended periods, and entry into historic buildings. Please note that not all tour locations are ADA accessible, and access to certain buildings may be limited.
