#4 blueprints for professional presence

Building Connection Through Great Communication

In architecture, strong technical knowledge and design expertise are essential — but it’s the human side of practice that often determines project success, client satisfaction, and firm culture. As architectural teams become more interdisciplinary, fast-paced, and relationship-driven, soft skills and emotional intelligence are no longer optional — they’re core professional competencies.

Stacey Hiramoto

This interactive session with Stacey Hiramoto, SHRM-CP, Senior HR Consultant, with Hawaii Employers Council, focuses on the people skills architects rely on every day: communicating clearly with clients and consultants, navigating feedback and conflict, recognizing bias, and building trust within teams. Through practical examples rooted in real workplace scenarios, participants will explore how emotional intelligence and effective communication support better collaboration, stronger leadership, and healthier firm environments.

Whether you’re an emerging professional, project architect, or firm leader, this program provides tools to strengthen working relationships at every level and contribute to an Employer of Choice culture within architectural practice.

Participants will explore how to:

  • Understand the role of emotional intelligence in architectural teams and leadership.
  • Apply effective communication fundamentals to improve collaboration with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
  • Recognize and mitigate bias to support inclusive and respectful design environments.
  • Navigate feedback, conflict, and difficult conversations common in project-driven work.
  • Build strong, trust-based working relationships across disciplines and organizational levels.
  • Develop skills that reinforce a positive firm culture and help architecture practices attract and retain talent.

Come ready to reflect, engage, and walk away with practical skills that can be used immediately in your work and team environments.
