Description
The Senior Job Captain/Project Architect plays a critical role from the start to the finish every job. The Senior Job Captain/Project Architect oversees developing Entitlement Documents, Design Development Documents, and Construction Documents for multiple projects of varying complexity. He or she is also in charge of keeping Construction Administration organized and delegating tasks to team members and consultants.
At the Senior Job Captain/Project Architect level, he or she is in charge of the technical development of the drawings and should be self-driven. He or She should be able to resolve complex details and code question, however, may need to consult a Senior Project Architect from time to time.
The Project Manager is the client relationship/budget and schedule lead on the project and will work closely with the Senior Job Captain/ Project Architect to develop a successful job.
General Qualifications
1. Technical and Design skills necessary to provide successful production of Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents for all types of architecture in their assigned Studio.
2. Work with the Project Manager to have clear understanding of the project schedules, budgets, and design intent.
3. Excellent communication skills allowing for the clear delineation of project tasks to the project team.
4. Academic: Graduate of an accredited architectural program. Architectural licensure in jurisdiction where he or she practices work is required for the Project Architect title.
5. Experience: Minimum of ten years’ experience in a registered architect's office plus internships.
Professional Skills
1. Substantial knowledge of design and planning principles for complex projects. Ability to work on more than one project at a time and to direct team members.
2. Work with the Project Manager and Project Designer and take the lead in the document development and delegation of tasks on the project.
3. Manage document development workflow and supervise 1 to 3 technical staff and consultants.
4. Expert knowledge of detailing, building materials and construction methods.
5. Expert Knowledge of all phases of architecture documentation and construction process.
6. Expert knowledge of building and planning codes, including ADA/Title 24 accessibility criteria. Ability to develop details that are in line with the project costs.
7. Expert knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustical and building envelope systems integration. Delegate responsibilities to consultants and coordinate their documents.
8. Supervise and manage the development of the Contract Documents.
9. Perform all construction administration tasks for a wide range of projects and issue direct instruction to general contractor in conformance with Lowney Architectures scope of services responsibilities.
10. Interpret ordinances and negotiate with building officials on behalf of a project.
11. Ability to lead discussions/negotiations with building officials during construction.
12. Ability to fully familiarize yourself and team members of Lowney Architectures scope of services/contractual obligations. Alert Project Manager of any issues that arise.
13. Coordinating signing and sealing Construction Documents for permit application; coordinate review and approval from all governing agencies.
14. Ability to act as Project Manager for small projects.
15. Expert knowledge of office Building Information Model (BIM) office standards.
16. Expert knowledge of Revit used for the development of project documents, including full construction documents and act as the BIM lead for their projects.
17. Ability to work with colleagues in a team environment.
18. Perform quality control on projects assigned to their studio.
19. Assists with budgeting time for project team. Responsible for monitoring schedule and making adjustments for timely performance. Coordinates with the PM.
20. Maintain a utilization ratio in excess of 95%, assuming sufficient backlog of work.
Communication Skills
1. Participate in client and public presentations. Assist with developing outline of material and directing meetings by agenda. Communicate ideas directly and clearly.
2. Originate and maintain project correspondence independently and under supervision. Issue technical written documents. Generate clear written instructions.
3. Substantial skill at design and Revit / CAD drafting graphic techniques and in generating construction documents. Ability to guide subordinates in such work.
4. Maintain project files for written communications.
5. Make qualitative decisions on graphic communications.
6. Excellent personal presentation. Properly presents the firm and themselves with high professional, ethical and moral standards.
Professional Activities
1. Certification: For Architect title Required to be licensed to Practice Architecture in the U.S.
2. Membership: Active membership in AIA or IIDA is highly desirable.
3. Public Service: Some contributions to community activities desirable, but not required.
4. Professional Service: Some contribution to professional activities and organizations desirable but not required.
